Let’s get down to business. You’ve built a solid splitter, mounted it securely to the chassis, and optimized your air dam. But if you aren’t managing the turbulent air at the outer edges of your bumper, you are leaving valuable front-end grip on the table.
Enter the Professional Awesome Outwash Splitter End Fences.
We designed these bent aluminum fences to tackle one of the biggest aerodynamic headaches on a production-based race car: tire wake. The rotating mass of your front tires creates a high-pressure nightmare of turbulent air that causes drag and lift. Our outwash design actively catches the air flowing outward along your splitter and aggressively directs it around and away from the front tires.
Why Outwash? The Positives
By kicking that air outward, you effectively evacuate the high-pressure zone in front of the tire. This acts as an extractor, helping to pull more air out from underneath the splitter. What do you get when you increase the velocity of the air beneath the car? A bigger low-pressure zone and a healthy bump in front downforce, particularly when paired with front diffusers.
The Compromises
Aerodynamics is all about balance, and outwash designs do come with trade-offs. Pushing air out into the free stream can increase your overall drag. If you run an outwash angle that is too aggressive, you can cause flow separation, and that out-washed air can negatively interact with the airflow traveling down your doors if you aren’t running proper side skirts or tire spats.
Because of this, we’ve engineered these fences with a conservative 10″ x 4″ footprint. The 4-inch height was specifically chosen to effectively manage the tire wake without getting greedy and creating massive, drag-inducing downstream turbulence.
The Stepped Leading Edge Advantage
A flat, blunt wall at the edge of your splitter might look aggressive, but it’s an aerodynamic sledgehammer. We designed a specific stepped leading edge into our fences to manage airflow intelligently:
- Smarter Flow Management: Instead of abruptly smashing into the thick boundary layer of air, the step gradually introduces the fence to the airflow. This prevents early separation, reduces pressure spikes, and keeps the air happily attached to the fence longer.
- Vortex Control: End fences naturally generate vortices. A stepped edge breaks one massive, drag-heavy vortex into smaller, highly controlled structures. This seals the low-pressure zone under the splitter while minimizing induced drag.
Features & Specs
- Precision Construction: 5052 H32 Aluminum is stiff, lightweight, and offers superior fatigue resistance compared to standard utility-grade alloys.
- Optimized Outwash Angle: Pushes air around the tire wake efficiently without requiring a wind tunnel to dial in.
- Universal Fitment: Ready to bolt onto your custom splitter (pairs perfectly with our flexible splitter support rods).
If you want to maximize your front aero package without adding unnecessary drag or complexity, these are the ticket.
